Duterte takes full responsibility for Marawi devastation

President Rodrigo Duterte declared martial law in Mindanao on May 23. It was 5-month long of war between the government and ISIS-linked local terror group Maute. And just this October 24, the battle leaves the Islamic city in wreckage.

According to the President, the rehabilitation of the Marawi city may be cost estimated of more than P50 billion.

But here is what our President Rodrigo Duterte said to those people who wants to sue the government about the result of war in Marawi city.

Duterte said, "I declared martial law to answer the challenges of the moment and I take full legal, criminal, and civil liability,"

"Ako 'yun. I hold myself solely responsible for what happened, including the incidents there, the events that transpired. Sabi ko, 'I take full responsibility for all," he added.

He even advised those Marawi residents to bring the case to the International Criminal Court. The International Criminal Court (ICC) is an intergovernmental organization and international tribunal that sits in The Hague in the Netherlands.

The President said, "I agree with you that if you have a gripe, and you think that justice should be done, and if they think that the Philippine courts would be prejudiced or biased, they can always go to the International Criminal Court".

In addition to this issue, some cause-oriented groups are also calling on Congress to launch an investigation into alleged abuses of security forces during the Marawi crisis.
