Good news! the Land Transportation Office (LTO) announces the releasing of the extend driver’s licenses validity next month. LTO officials will release 5-year driver’s license effective this September 2016.
We all know that the current professional and non-professional driver’s licenses are valid only for three years.
But the spokesperson of the Department of Transportation (DOT) Cherie Mercado said, "By Sept. 19, those who will renew their licenses in the National Capital Region will have five-year validity."
The initial implementation of the 5-year driver's license will be in Metro Manila next month. And the other part of the country will follow in October, Mercado said.
According to PhilStar, This action was to lessen queues at the agency with the compliance for President Duterte’s directive.
LTO chief Edgar Galvante said the extension would ease transactions at the LTO as it would take a longer time before license holders need to renew their IDs.
According to the report, LTO will start releasing 400,000 licenses (plastic cards) per month on November.
