The President-elect Rodrigo Duterte shows support on increasing the SSS pension for senior citizens. Duterte said that the Social Security System (SSS) pension is in place exactly for employees to save money for their future and when the time comes for them to retire.
During a press conference held Tuesday night at the Malacañang of the South at the Department of Public Works and Highways equipment depot in Barangay Panacan.
Duterte agreed that the current amount of basic SSS pension at P2,000 is not enough for the elderly to afford their medical needs. The incoming president Duterte promised to increase the SSS pension rate.
He prankly said, "I will increase it. Kasi alam mo, dapat binigay yan because when you have able bodies, during your younger days when you can work, we give our money so that we can have something to go by. If you have money, you have P2,000, what can you buy?"
Even the incoming president is also vulnerable to any illnesses, he is now at age 71.
If you remembered when the time that the outgoing President Benigno Aquino III vetoed the approved bill increasing the pension by P2,000 because the proposal would bankrupt the state pension fund.
PNoy said, "the P2,000 across-the-board pension increase with a corresponding adjustment of the minimum monthly pension will result in substantial negative income for the SSS."
On the other hand, Duterte also warned both the SSS and the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) against making pensioners wait for a long time to process their claims following numerous complaints that reached him.
Duterte wants both agency 'SSS' and 'GSIS' should shape up and make sure that their members are better served.
