Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte was on the hot seat due to the allegedly expletive line in his speech on Monday at the Century Park hotel. He explained his side about the 'message' he told about Pope Francis.

Rodrigo Duterte is not cursing Pope Francis

Former north Cotabato mayor Manny Piñol posted on his Facebook wall the short message from Duterte. It said, "I can never curse my Pope. I was cursing at incompetence. If it was taken by some in that light, I sincerely apologize. I will continue to curse so our suffering nation takes action"

The Duterte's message was supposedly intended to inform those people who felt offended by his speech that he is not cursing Pope Francis but the government incompetence.

On his recent interview, Duterte cleared the issues and said, "I never said p**** mo Pope. I said ‘‘t****, huwag ka na pumunta dito.’", "You travel for five hours for five kilometers, you don’t use your heads! You allow people to endure hardships!”"

According to Cotabato mayor Piñol, he expects Duterte's political opponents will take advantage on the issue.

Piñol said, "At the end of the day, however, the whole country would still have to answer the question: Who could protect the country from the evils of crime, drugs and corruption?"
