The Day of Valor is today, April 9, 2015. 'Araw ng Kagitingan' was declared as regular national holiday of the Philippines. Every year, we're celebrating the day of valor for commemoration of the gallant stand of the Filipino and American soldiers during the Battle of Bataan.

This is the 73rd Anniversary of the Fall of Bataan where all Filipinos are urged to observe one-minute silence at 4:30 PM of April 9, according to Republic Act 3022 which was originally signed by Pres. Carlos P. Garcia in 1961.

Fall of Bataan was originally happened on April 9, 1942. The day when Filipino and American troops in Bataan was surrendered to the Japanese Imperial Army under General Masaharu Homma.  

Then on the next day, the so-called 140-kilometre “Death March” happened, where all soldiers who surrendered was forced to march from Mariveles, Bataan all the way to San Fernando, Pampanga. Only some 54,000 of the 76,000 prisoners reached their destination. That's the brief history of the Fall of Bataan.

The Proclamation No. 831 series of 2014., declared and signed by President Benigno Simeon Aquino III that the April 9, set as national holidays and became part of the official regular holidays.
