The Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) lines will go on a full automated fare collection system (AFCS) live this coming May 2015. This is a public-private partnership (PPP) project.

Automated Ticketing System for LRT-MRT this May 2015

The fully automated system made happen with the joint partnership of Ayala Corporation and Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) via the name AF Payments Incorporated (AFI, formerly Automated Fare Collection Services, Incorporated).

The live operation will happen first at LRT on May this year and will be followed by MRT3 in June and LRT1 in July. This means that all three rail transit will go on AFCS before the end of year 2015.

As to the old magnetic tickets will be withdrawn and be replaced by contactless-based smart card technology. So expect for the new type of gates that will be installed on all LRT and MRT stations.
