We all know what is the word "Selfie" and its widely known to all, even teens and adults are doing it. But this time, "Selfie" goes to the next level, it was declared Word of The Year or "Salita ng Taon" on Friday, by Filipinas Institute of Translation, Inc.

The nominations came from the University of the Philippines, Diliman professor at the Department of Filipino and Philippine Literature, Dr. Luna Sicat-Cleto.

"Endo" won the second place award and nominated by De la Salle University professor and Bulacan State University professor, namely, Dr. David Michael San Juan and John Kelvin Briones.

Third award goes to "Filipinas" nominated by Miriam College professor Dr. Rebecca AnoƱuevo.

According to GMA News, "Sawikaan began in 2004 as a language competition. The concept of Salita ng Taon was the brainchild of P.T. Martin, an active member of FIT, who patterned it after the Word of the Year by the American Dialect Society."

"Selfie" word defeated the 12 other words that had been included to the collection of written texts of the Filipino culture this 2013 and 2014.

It also won the Best Presentation category where the conference delegates used ballot vote to choose it.

Meanwhile, Filipinas Institute of Translation, Inc. (FIT) conducted the Salita ng Taon every other 2-years.
