Good News! To all Filipinos ages 60 years and above regardless of their status in life either rich or poor they will have a mandatory health insurance coverage (PhilHealth) once the bill enacted into law.

Mandatory PhilHealth coverage bill for all Filipino senior citizens

On Monday, the Senate approved the third and final reading of a bill which aiming to provide automatic Philippine Health Insurance coverage to all senior citizens.

According to GMA News, the bill was first introduced by Senate Pro Tempore Ralph Recto and sponsored by Senator Teofisto Guingona III.

All Filipinos senior citizens wouldn't need to present a PhilHealth card but only a valid identification card to avail of the benefits, according to the Senate Bill 712.

Currently, only indigent senior citizens are entitled to PhilHealth coverage under Republic Act (RA) 7432 and amended by the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.

Senator Recto believe that it is time to pay back the senior citizens.

He said, "They have invested in our future and they are entitled to dividends. This bill settles but a small portion of what we owe them. No obligation is more outstanding."

Senator Recto insisted that PhilHealth coverage should be automatic and not optional for senior citizens.
