The Malaysian airplane carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew was shot down by a missile coming from allegedly terrorists near in a rebel-controlled area of eastern Ukraine on Thursday, July 17, according to U.S. officials.

Malaysia Airlines plane shot down, 295 passengers died

The Boeing 777 plane flying at 33,000 feet and going from Amsterdam into Kuala Lumpur when the powerful missile shoot the plane and crashed near the Russian border about 4:30 p.m. local time (9:30 a.m. EDT).

The passenger plane "was caught in the crossfire between Ukraine and anti-government rebels and was shot down by Russians, who are supporting the rebels," according to Rep. Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said, "We must and we will find out precisely what happened to this flight. No stone will be left unturned."

He said, "If it transpires that the plane was indeed shot down, we insist that the perpetrators must swiftly be brought to justice."

There are people who've witnessed the actual incident which are according to them the plane exploded in the air and crashed down near the Russian border.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said in his website, "We do not exclude that the plane was shot down and confirm that the Ukraine Armed Forces did not fire at any targets in the sky."

And sad to say this, there are three people from the Philippines was included in the 295 passengers of the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, according to Vice President of Malaysia Airlines Europe Huib Gorter.
