A total of twenty-two United States embassies and consulates are now closed particularly in Middle East area due to Al Qaeda threat. The global travel alert was due to a potential terrorist attacks.

United State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said, “Out of an abundance of caution, we’ve decided to extend the closure of several embassies and consulates including a small number of additional posts,”

U.S. President Barack Obama advised all of his national security team last week to “take all appropriate steps to protect the American people in light of a potential threat occurring in or emanating from the Arabian Peninsula,” according to a White House press release.

The 22 U.S. embassies including here in the Philippines are remained close until Saturday, August 10, 2013.

Even the embassies of Britain, France and Germany will be close in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, on Sunday and Monday for security reasons.

The U.S. advisory came after al-Qaeda’s leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri asked his followers in a speech posted on jihadist websites to attack U.S. sites.
