Yesterday, President Noynoy Aquino approved the construction of the EDSA-Taft flyover in Pasay City to minimize traffic congestion in the said area.

Malacanang Palace spokeperson Edwin Lacierda said, “The President has allowed the project to move forward subject to NEDA-ICC (National Economic Development Authority-Investment Coordination Committee) approval and subject to the President’s instruction that the government take the necessary measures to minimize any inconvenience to EDSA motorists before actual construction takes place.”

According to him the timetable of the EDSA-Taft flyover construction is 15 months while actual construction will take 12 months.

He added, “The NEDA-ICC will review it by April and the project cost is estimated at P2.7 billion.”

He also said that the flyover could reduce the average travel time by 50 percent and vehicle operating cost by 44 percent.
