The new low pressure area (LPA) is expected to enter Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this afternoon, Wednesday, January 2, 2012. It was estimated at 790 km East of Mindanao, according to state weather bureau.

LPA expected to enter PAR today January 2, 2013

PAGASA forecaster Elvie Enriquez said in an interview on dzBB radio, "Ang namataang LPA [is] about to enter the Philippine area of responsibility... maaring mga 11 a.m. papasok na ito."

Enriquez added, "Ngayon nagpapaulan na ito [sa Mindanao] dahil nakapaloob ito sa inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ)."

If ever the LPA becomes a cyclone while inside the PAR, this will be the first storm for the year 2013 and it will be given a locally codenamed "Auring."

Meanwhile, PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small sea crafts not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.
