Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said, "BUTCHOY" has intensified into a typhoon and is now moving in a North Northwest direction. "

PAGASA 5:00 a.m., weather bulletin posted, "At 4:00 a.m. today, Tropical Storm "BUTCHOY" was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 480 km east northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar (12.2°N, 130.5°E) with maximum sustained winds of 110 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 140 kph. It is forecast to move north northwest at 15 kph. Southwest monsoon affecting Luzon. "

PAGASA already raised signal no. 1 over Eastern Samar as "Typhoon Butchoy" moved closer to the said  province.

PAGASA weather forecasters expected Typhoon Butchoy to move out from the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this coming Tuesday.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said, "fishing boats and other small seacrafts have been advised not to venture out to the seas off Luzon, Visayas and eastern Mindanao due to the big waves."
