Lars Rasmussen, the Sydney-based co-founder of Google Maps has spoken publicly for the first time about why he quit his job and joined the growing band of high profile Googlers who have switched allegiances to Facebook.

According to Lars Rasmussen, "It feels to me that Facebook may be a sort of once-in-a-decade type of company." He explained why he join to Facebook, "Obviously they've already changed the world and yet there seems to be so much more to be done there. And I think that it's the right place for me to be."

With more than 500 million members worldwide, Facebook has become the web's hottest destination, while Zuckerberg, 26, has become American's youngest billionaire.

Rasmussen, who parted company with Google on Friday, will leave Sydney and move to San Francisco. He intends to start work at Facebook's Silicon Valley headquarters next month after "a whole lotta rest" on a beach somewhere.
