According to GMA News, all cancer patients showed interest and hope that once incoming president Duterte assumes his seat on June 30, he would implement as soon as possible the nationwide ban on smoking in public places and establishments.

In an interview to NVAP President Emer Rojas with the State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, he said that Duterte knows exactly how it feels to be sick from smoking due to his Buerger’s disease.

He said, "Alam niya ang pakiramdam ng nagkakasakit na idinudulot ng sigarilyo."

According to New Vois Association of the Philippines (NVAP), there's an estimated 10 Filipinos die every hour due to smoking-related diseases.

Last month, Duterte announced his proposal on smoking ban, he said smoking will only be allowed out on the street, 50 meters away from establishments.

Rojas said, "May batas (Republic Act 9211 or the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003) na tayo dyan pero hindi napapatupad. Gradually and eventually matatanggal na po sana 'yung paninigarilyo sa ganyang lugar."

Meanwhile, The cigarette giant company 'Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corp.' declined to give feedback on the incoming administration's plan when sought for reaction by GMA News.
