Local government units in several region in the Philippines declared class suspensions on Friday, Dec. 5, due to the threat of upcoming Typhoon "Ruby" (Hagupit is the International codename).

According to Joint Typhoon Warning Center in Hawaii, tropical cyclone "Hagupit" is now categorized as a super typhoon.

And the agency monitored "Hagupit" was maintaining a "west-northwestward trajectory under the steering influence of the subtropical ridge."

As the Joint Typhoon Warning Center forecasts "Hagupit" to pack as much as 296 kph (160 knots) winds by December 7 (Sunday), 2 a.m., when it is nearer the Philippines.
