Typhoon Nina Update October 9, 2012

As the state weather forecaster said that tropical storm Nina is now a Typhoon and continuously get stronger while still over the East Philippine Sea. Typhoon Nina is moving closer to the Cagayan area in Northern Luzon.

PAGASA said in its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, "At 4:00 a.m. today, the eye of Typhoon "NINA" was located at 1,050 km East of Cagayan (18.4°N, 132.8°E) with maximum winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph. It is forecast to move West at 15 kph. "

PAGASA said due to the typhoon, Visayas, Bicol and Davao regions will have occasional light to moderate rains or thunderstorms. While moderate to strong winds blowing from the north to northwest will prevail over Luzon area and coming from the northwest to west over Eastern Visayas and Eastern Mindanao.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said, "the Low Pressure Area (LPA) Northeast of Virac Catanduanes has dissipated."
