Marissa Lapid was arrested in US for smuggling $50,000

Senator Lito Lapid confirmed the news that her wife "Marissa" was arrested in United States for dollar smuggling worth $50,000 last January 15, 2012. However, Marissa was released on bail but will remain in Las Vegas for the pending case resolution, according to Senator Lapid.

Sen. Lapid said, “I have also sought the help of the Department of Foreign Affairs to find out what really happened."

According to the news, US officials filed an affidavit that said Marissa was caught after she said that she had only $10,000 in hand to Customs personnel at the Las Vegas airport.

Apparently, Sen. Lapid’s chief of staff, Lawyer Filmer Abrajano said, "that the information they had received regarding to Marissa case was still incomplette and he can't answer further why she was released last November.

Meanwhile, US federal issued a warrant of arrest to Marissa last January 5, 2012 in accordance with her earlier arrest on November 27, 2011 for the dollar smuggling attempt.
