Marissa Lapid, wife of Senator Lito Lapid apologized to the Customs Border and Protection officer for allegedly smuggling $50,000 in cash last November 27, 2011. According to report, when Marissa asked about the money, she said, “I’m sorry. It’s for my house.”
The Homeland Security Investigation special agent "Albert Giangregorio" said, "when Marissa arrived, she declared that she was not carrying currency over $10,000 in US currency or foreign currency equivalent."
But upon reexamination of Customs Border and Protection officer, they found a two socks with $10,000 each and a cloth bag containing $20,000.
Giangregorio said, "Marissa then apologized and repeatedly said 'I screwed up.' "
Meanwhile, Senator Lapid said in a statement yesterday, “My wife can defend herself.”
