In accordance with the declaration of President Benigno Aquino III of the national state of calamity, price freeze implemented nationwide on all basic products.
In an interviewed with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary Zeny Maglaya said, "ang price freeze o ang pag-control sa presyo ng mga pangunahing bilihin ay ipinatutupad sa buong bansa at hindi lang sa mga lugar na apektado ng kalamidad."
DTI explained that the price of basic commodities should not be increased since the declared state of national calamity by President Aquino on Tuesday, based on the Republic Act 7581.
However, DTI also clarified that the prices of petroleum is not covered by the price freeze because it is not included in the classification of basic commodities.
