As what we don't know, spokesperson Lacierda already know how to speak Chinese because he studied before in Chinese school.

But Lacierda explained why he need to study more, just because in that way he can easily communicate well in the discussions of the PHL President and Chinese leaders.

Lacierda said, "Learning how to speak and knowing how to speak at least endears us to them at nakakatulong talaga sa relasyon."

He added, "At yun ay isang malaking bagay sa mga Tsino na nakikita nilang nagsusumikap ang mga ibang bansa na mag-aral ng Mandarin."

Meanwhile, Professor Zhang Shitao said "the Chinese people are impressed when foreigners, including officials, can speak and understand their language, just like former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd."
