World’s Largest Solar Cell Powered Boat - MS Turanor PlanetSolar

The World's Largest Solar Cell Powered Boat is now anchored in the the Philippine Navy port HQ as part of its world tour. The Maxeon solar cells from SunPower were used to power the MS Turanor PlanetSolar, considered as the world's biggest solar-powered boat, according to international news site.

The MS Turanor PlanetSolar is powered by SunPower’s 38,000 Maxeon solar cells arranged in 825 modules on a total surface area of 537 square meters.

Marty Neese, SunPower chief operating officer said, “The solar cells powering PlanetSolar are manufactured here in the Philippines and we take pride in the contributions of Filipinos in the boats 50,000-kilometer voyage through five continents.”

PlanetSolar begin its world tour in Monaco on September 2010 to give awareness,  effectiveness and reliability of using solar energy. They went through the Panama Canal, Indian Ocean, Red Sea and Suez Canal to reach the Pacific Ocean.

According to Raphael Domjan, who is the founder and co-skipper of PlanetSolar, "the solar cells have generated more power than needed to get us to each stop on time so we arrived earlier here in Manila."
