Measles Outbreak Feared in Britain

As of May 27, 2011, there are more than 334 measles cases in England and Wales started last April, this was revealed by UK health sites. Measles outbreak is feared in Britain as the Health protection Agency (HPA) announced, according to Center for Diseases Control and Prevention.

"Measles cases are reported by state health departments to CDC, and confirmed cases are reported via the National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System (NNDSS)…"

This is because measles is “highly infectious” and can cause fatal conditions like pneumonia, eye-ear infections and encephalitis. It may also cause miscarriage in pregnant women.

Measles Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a generalized, maculopapular, erythematous rash.

Measles is spread through respiration (contact with fluids from an infected person's nose and mouth, either directly or through aerosol transmission), and is highly contagious 90% of people without immunity sharing living space with an infected person will catch it.
