Lethal Injection used by China, America and Thailand

Did you know that America, China and Thailand are among the 74 countries that use lethal injection in imposing death penalty. It is considered as the most humane way to execute a convicted prisoner.

Lethal injection uses a combination of three drugs.

The 1st drug is the anaesthetic Sodium Thiopental, which puts the inmate into a deep sleep in just a matter of seconds. The 2nd drug, Pancoronium Bromide then paralyzes the diaphragm and lungs within three minutes after being injected. The 3rd drug, Potassium Chloride, induces cardiac arrest.

A medical technician will wait for about two minutes before determining and officially declaring that the convict has died.

After the convicted prisoner’s declared dead it will then be brought to a medical examiner to undergo autopsy.

The body can either be brought home by the relatives or cremated by the State, depending on the rules and arrangement between the government and the convict’s family.

Here in the Philippines, lethal injection was the method used in the execution of convicted child rapist Leo Echegaray in 1999. Echegaray was the first Filipino to be executed using this method.

However, the death penalty was abolished in the country in 2006.
