Sense of Smell

The sense of smell seems to become fatigued easily; that is the sensation of odor fades after a short period of time. Perhaps you have entered in a room in which you found a strong scent and after a few minutes, however, you didn't seem to notice the scent or odor at all.






The discharge of mucus that accompanies a severe cold will cause you to lose your sense of smell, because the mucus forms a thick covering over the epithelial cells of the nose and prevents odorous gases from coming in contract with the cells.

The sense of smell is highly developed among a large part of the animal kingdom. These animal use smell as their chief means of learning about their surrounding. While in human being of course we use it for our daily living, however, the sense of smell is only mildly developed.
